What is a report instance?

Instances are versions of reports that appear in a dashboard or a folder.

The instance references the original report data and updates if the original report is changed, but it is a distinct copy that can be modified without affecting the original report. Instances of reports on a dashboard can have different filters and settings from the original report, allowing you to customize the instance to meet your specific needs.

Ignore inherited filters

From the dashboard screen, use the overflow menu on a report tile to open that report's Instance filter settings. Then, choose which inherited context filters you'd like this report instance to ignore. Context filters that you select will not affect this report instance.

In the example above, choosing to ignore dashboard filters for Overall volume allows you to apply a team dashboard filter to the rest of the reports without affecting the Overall volume report.

Add filters

From the dashboard screen, use the overflow menu on a report tile to open that report's Instance filter settings. Then, open the filters panel using the Add filters button and select which filters you'd like to add.

Edit an original report

If you have edit rights to the original report and you'd like to view or edit it, open the report and click the button to Edit original report. Saved changes will affect the original report and all instances of that report.
